n official at the Home Ministry said the ministry had no plan to summon Riau Governor Annas Maamun, who has been reported to the National Police over two sexual assault allegations.
Head of the ministry's communications department, Dodi Riyatmadji, said Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi had not ordered the formation of a special team to seek clarification from Annas, as the cases were not yet a priority.
He said such teams had in the past been formed to handle specific problems faced by the heads of regencies, such as the case of former Garut regent Aceng Fikri who was found to have married illegally.
'All parties should wait for the results of the police investigation. Don't ask about 'what ifs'. Let's just wait and see whether the police decide to follow up on the cases,' he told The Jakarta Post over the phone on Tuesday.
Annas was reported to police last week by Wide Wirawati, 38, the daughter of prominent Riau figure Soemardi Thaher, for sexually assaulting her in May. Separately, he was also reported by the former wife of Dumai Legislative Council Speaker Zainal Effendi, also alleging sexual assault.
