This year's Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS), to be held from Sept. 18-28 in Jakarta, will showcase the latest models from the world's top brands, including Jeep Cherokee, Range Rover, Toyota, Nissan and Audi.
The IIMS returns this year as one of the Asia-Pacific region's biggest automotive exhibitions.
The 22nd IIMS, which will run from Sept. 18-28 at the Jakarta International Expo in Kemayoran, will cover an area of 83,137 square meters and display 29 different brands of passenger car, including Audi, BMW, Mazda, Mitsubishi and VW. Seven commercial vehicle brands will also future, such as FAW, Toyota Dyna and UD Trucks.
This year's theme is 'Smart and Safe Mobility'. The event is expected to attract 380,000 visitors. Here are some notable vehicles set to make their debut at IIMS 2014.
The latest Jeep Cherokee
With little in the way of buzz, Garansindo has launched the Jeep Cherokee this year. The Cherokee sports a unique look. Its design is more streamlined and minimalist, with a futuristic nuance to the entire vehicle. It still has the Cherokee's iconic vertical grills, but it looks much sweeter, so to speak, than the average Jeep.
Passengers can feel the sense of luxury emanating from all corners of the vehicle's interior. It is a far cry from the tough and rugged cultural image of Jeep interiors. A fully-digital instrument panel makes your ride more interactive. The four-wheel-drive control system is located right next to the transmission lever. A Selec-Terrain traction-control system optimizes options for all different geographical and weather conditions, including snow, sand, mud and rocks.
This Cherokee comes equipped with a four-cylinder 2,400 cc engine with 184 hp in power and 232 Nm in torque. It has an automatic nine-speed transmission that promises smoother driving.
Aside from on-the-road comforts, the Cherokee comes with more than 70 safety features, including Adaptive Cruise Control-Plus, Forward Collision Warning Plus, rear axle and parallel and perpendicular parking assists.
New Range Rover Long-Wheelbase
This fourth-generation Range Rover was originally launched in 2012. Its dimensions make it stand out. It adds 200 mm from the 4,999 mm in the standard to become 5,199 mm. The wheelbase has also increased from 2,922 mm to 3,120 mm. The added dimensions make for more a more spacious cabin than usual. It's also more luxurious in terms of nuances.
PT Grandauto Dinamika will be responsible for launching this All New Range Rover LWB Autobiography. On the official Land Rover website, we are told it uses a V8 4,999 cc engine with a maximum energy of 510 hp at 6,000 to 6,500 rpm. It has torque of up to 625 Nm from 2,500 to 5,500 rpm.
It comes with standard features such as keyless entry, front and side airbags, hill-descent controls, dynamic response, dynamic and roll stability control, electronic traction control and an electronic stability program.
Toyota RAV4
Not wanting to lose out to the competition, Toyota is ready to release the RAV4 for the country's medium SUV market. This new Toyota SUV will compete with cars like the Nissan X-Trail, the Mazda CX-5 and the Honda CR-V.
The company has provided two options for engines: the 2,000 cc and 2,500 cc with Dual VVT-i technology. The 2,000 cc engine has 143 hp in energy alongside a manual six-speed transmission or CVT. The 2,500 cc engine has 176 hp in energy and adopts an automatic six-speed transmission with a manual mode.
In terms of dimensions, the RAV4 is more compact than its rivals. Its body length is only 4,570 mm with a wheelbase of 2,660 mm.
Nissan Elgrand VIP
One of the vehicles making its appearance at Nissan's IIMS 2014 booth is the Elgrand VIP. It's not that different from the regular Elgrand, but a few new touches have made the Elgrand VIP a much classier MPV premium vehicle.
The interior has only two rows of seats. It was originally designed for three, but was later changed to add space for passengers. In this sense, the Elgrand VIP feels more like an MPV limousine.
Additional features include a reading lamp, a table and a large electronic screen, all adding a sense of exclusivity to the MPV. The engine is the usual Elgrand variant at 2,488 cc, with four cylinders capable of generating 170 hp in energy.
Audi S3 Saloon 2.0 FSI Quattro
Audi has taken a significant step by bringing the S3 to IIMS 2014. It is designed as a four-door saloon vehicle with a variety of sophisticated features.
It comes with an aggressive yet high-class design aimed at expatriates who worship speed. It has a 1,984 cc four-cylinder engine with Audi's classic FSI technology capable of generating up to 295 hp. It has torsion of 380 Nm from 1,800 to 5,500 rpm. The driver gets assistance from a six-speed S-Tronic transmission with precise double clutch gear shifting.
The luxurious aspects are the interior's dark nappa leather, as well as top-class features such as Audi MMI, Drive Select, Magnetic Ride, adaptive cruise control and parking assist.
