The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) has named new speakers who will lead the legislature for the next five years.
Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) councilor Prasetio Edi Marsudi, who ran in the Central Jakarta electoral district, was named the DPRD's new speaker during a plenary session on Tuesday.
Four councilors representing four other political parties, which won the most seats on the council, will assume the deputy-speaker posts.
The new deputy speakers comprise M. Taufik from the Gerindra Party; Triwisaksana from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS); Abraham 'Lulung' Lunggana from the United Development Party (PPP), and Ferrial Sofyan from the Democratic Party.
The names of the new speakers will be submitted to the Home Ministry to be approved by Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi.
'After [Gamawan's] approval, we will choose the commission leaders so that we can focus on our duties,' Prasetio said after the plenary session.
He added that the council would soon discuss Jakarta Governor and president-elect Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's resignation and set about selecting a new deputy governor.
He declined, however, to confirm a timeline for the process.(nfo)(++++)
