s I was walking my dog by the river on Jl. Duta Indah 1 in Pondok Indah, South Jakarta, on a recent afternoon, I noticed that several huge and very old trees had been cut down, with one of the last standings trees still being worked on.
The workers were about halfway into cutting it down. When that work was done, only two trees were left on this beautiful riverbank.
It was personally very sad to see these huge and beautiful trees being 'stripped off' and cut down. Also I would assume that the trees consumed a lot of water and as such kept the water level of the river under control.
I sincerely hope there is a good reason to remove them, even though it is still a tragedy for the birds, the animals and the people living in that area.
In all probability the river will become much bigger during the rainy season.
