atanghari Forestry Agency officialAfrizal has announced that the agency has managed to extinguish widespread firesacross Batanghari regency, Jambi.
He said there had been three fires, one in Tanjung Marwo village in Muara Tembesi district and two in Bajubang district. There were strong indications that the fires were originally set by people seeking to clear the forest.
As a follow up the local administration has vowed to determine the cause and take stern action against whoever was behind the fires.
'We will arrest anyone who intentionally set fire to the land,' he told The Jakarta Post. (alz/dic)
