AKARTA: The City Council has named the speakers who will lead the legislative body for the next five years.
Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) councilor Prasetio Edi Marsudi, who ran in the Central Jakarta electoral district, was named the new speaker during a plenary session on Tuesday.
Councilors representing the four other political parties who won the most seats on the council will assume the four deputy speaker posts.
The new deputy speakers are M. Taufik of the Gerindra Party, Triwisaksana of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Abraham 'Lulung' Lunggana of the United Development Party (PPP) and Ferrial Sofyan of the Democratic Party.
The names of the new speakers will be submitted to the Home Ministry to be confirmed by Home Minister Gamawan Fauzi.
'After the approval, we will speedily pick commission leaders so we can immediately focus on our duties,' Prasetio said after the plenary session.
He added that the council would immediately discuss president-elect and Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's resignation and process the selection of a new deputy governor.
Prasetio, however, declined to provide a timeline for the process.
