NYC's Sept. 11 museum gets 1 millionth visitor

The Sept. 11 museum has gotten its 1 millionth visitor a little less than four months after opening to the public.

The museum announced Tuesday that the milestone had been reached, and identified the person as Karen McDaniel, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. National September 11 Memorial and Museum President Joe Daniels said the million-visitor mark wasn't expected to be reached until the fall. The museum has been open to the public since May 21.

Daniels said visitors recognize that it's "a piece of history that they need to understand firsthand."

Visitors have come from all 50 states and more than 130 countries.

Daniels said visitors' feedback has made it clear that people want to know not only about the events of Sept. 11, 2001, but its continuing aftermath.
