The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) strengthened slightly on Thursday morning by 0.16 percent, equal to 8.21 basis points, to 5,196.39.

In addition, shares in blue-chip firms increased by 0.23 percent to 880.71.

"Positive sentiment in the global financial market has affected the domestic market," Valbury Asia Securities research head Alfiansyah said as quoted by Antara news agency.

He said the positive global sentiment was due to the US Federal Open Market Committee's (FOMC) decision to maintain its benchmark interest rate at 0.25 percent.

He added that the positivity in the Asian market was also due in part to the US central bank increasing its liquidity funds by 500 yuan or US$81 billion.
"We predict that sentiment from China and the US will maintain the JCI at a positive level throughout Thursday," he continued.

In the regional market, Hong Kong's Hang Seng and Japan's Nikkei indexes rose by 0.7 percent and 1.04 percent, respectively.

Improvements were also recorded in stocks traded on the Singapore's Straits Times Index, which rose by 0.2 percent Thursday morning. (nfo)
