umedang Regent Ade Irawan has refused to step down, arguing that he had not as yet received written confirmation from prosecutors regarding his legal status.
'I haven't received an official letter declaring my status as a suspect in this case,' Ade, who is also head of the Democratic Party's Sumedang chapter, said on Friday.
He also said that he had reimbursed Rp 76 million of the regional budget funds that he had spent on official trips as a Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) speaker.
Ade did say, however, that he was ready to allow due process to take its course.
The West Java Prosecutor's Office previously named Ade a graft case suspect, alleging that he embezzled Rp 1.7 billion from the regional budget for official trips while he serving as the speaker of the Cimahi DPRD.(dic)(++++)
