Sumedang regent refuses to go, despite being named graft suspect

S

umedang Regent Ade Irawan has refused to step down, arguing that he had not as yet received written confirmation from prosecutors regarding his legal status.

'€œI haven'€™t received an official letter declaring my status as a suspect in this case,'€ Ade, who is also head of the Democratic Party'€™s Sumedang chapter, said on Friday.

He also said that he had reimbursed Rp 76 million of the regional budget funds that he had spent on official trips as a Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) speaker.

Ade did say, however, that he was ready to allow due process to take its course.

The West Java Prosecutor's Office previously named Ade a graft case suspect, alleging that he embezzled Rp 1.7 billion from the regional budget for official trips while he serving as the speaker of the Cimahi DPRD.(dic)(++++)
