he volcanic activities of Mount Slamet have somewhatdiminished and rumbles have not been heard coming from the volcano in the past24 hours.
'Rumbles were no longer heard from Mount Slamet and the ash rain has stopped,' said Hayu, 45, of Karangtengah village, Baturaden district, Banyumas regency, Central Java, on Friday.
Despite the respite, the Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) has not lowered the alert status, which remains at level 3.
The center urges residents to avoid the area within a 4-kilometer radius around the peak. As of Friday, the strong rumbles had stopped, but the volcano was still frequently spewing molten lava from its lower elevations.
