ndonesia'€™s men'€™s badminton team will begin its medal quest on Saturday when it takes on Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals at the Gyeyang Gymnasium in the Asian Games.

Chinese Taipei went through to the quarterfinals after edging out Thailand on Friday while Indonesia was awarded a bye.

Tien Chen Chou opened Chinese Taipei'€™s account with a 21-16, 21-12 win over Boonsak Ponsana. Chia Hsin Tsai and Sheng Mu Lee doubled their team'€™s lead with a hard fought 21-16, 15-21, 14-21 win over Jongjit Maneepong and Phuangphuapet Nipitphon before Jen Hao Hsu sealed an unassailable 3-0 lead by beating Tonangsak Saensomboonsuk 21-15, 21-14.

The other quarterfinal matches will pit China against Hong Kong, Malaysia against Nepal and South Korea against Japan.

The teams of Nepal, Hong Kong and Korea, the latter of which features world champions Lee Yong-dae and Yoo Yeon-seong, advanced to the next stage with 3-0 wins over Macau, the Maldives and India, respectively.

The Gyeyang sports complex is also the venue for archery, cycling and karate. However, the badminton hall turned out to be the most raucous arena, especially when Lee Yong'€“dae and Yoo Yeon-seong, who are tipped to win the men'€™s doubles title along with Indonesia'€™s Hendra Setiawan and Muhammad Ahsan, were featured in action against Indian opponents Sumeeth Reddy Buss and Manu Attri.

The home crowd roared as the South Korean pair scored point after point, either via deadly smashes or their opponents'€™ mistakes. The home heroes were too strong and ran out 21-12, 21-9 winners in 35 minutes.

Indonesia'€™s women'€™s team also chalked up a win early in the morning over the Maldives but its chances of making the quarterfinals nose-dived after the first singles match saw Linda Wenifanetri lose to Mitani Minatsu 21-19, 23-21, 12-21 and Greysia Polii and Nitya Krishinda Maheswari bow out to Ayaka Takahasi and Misaki Matsutomo 21-14, 18-21, 19-21.

The Indonesian pair fought hard to haul their way back to 19-19, but a lame return cost them dearly. Greysia threw down her racket in sheer dejection.

In the third tie, Beatrix Manuputty was outplayed by Sayaka Takahashi 18-21,14-21, which sealed Japan'€™s 3-0 victory over Indonesia.
