he Semarang Prosecutor's Office has detained 14 former 19992004-term city councilors over their alleged roles in a bogus insurance case.
'Twelve of them were detained at Kedungpane penitentiary and the remaining two were detained at Bulu women's penitentiary,' the head of the prosecutor's office, Abdul Aziz, told The Jakarta Post.
The councilors, who were detained on Thursday, were named as Rudy Soehardjo, Achmad Munif, Adhi Khuntoro, Leonard Andhik Suryono, Bambang Suprayogie, Otok Riyanto, Heru Widyatmoko, Zaenuddin Bukhori, Sugiono AP, Idris Imron, Herman Yostam, Fajar Hidayati, Sri Munasir and Siti Markamah.
The councilors earlier received Rp 38.4 million (US$3,200) each from the city budget to cover their premiums, which was organized by the council in cooperation with an insurance company. Later, it was found that there was no such cooperation with the insurance company, causing state losses of Rp 1.7 billion.
