he Jakarta administration had found there were around 7,000 people with social and community problems (PMKS) across the capital city as of August this year, an official announced.
Social Service Agency head Masrokhan said the 7,000 who were discovered by members of the Jakarta Public Order Agency came from various backgrounds: they were street children, transvestites (waria), beggars, displaced seniors and disabled people.
'In South Jakarta alone, we have found around 1,800 PMKS in various locations, such as Tebet, Kuningan, Fatmawati, Ragunan and Kalibata throughout this year,' he said on Monday, as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said that the administration would rehabilitate the 7,000 people in Cengkareng and Kedoya in West Jakarta and in Cipayung, East Jakarta. During the rehabilitation process, it would train them.
He said that his agency would gradually send the 7,000 people to their homes after the rehabilitation process was completed. Before sending them home, it would require them to sign agreement letters promising that they would not return to the capital city.
'If we find them again in Jakarta, we will take firm action by bringing them to court,' he said. (alz)
