Comments on other issues: Group threatens to close down LGBT seminar

S

strong>Sept. 17, Online

A radical group has threatened to use force to close down a seminar on LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) issues organized by Sanata Dharma University'€™s School of Psychology.

'€œWe have requested the seminar be canceled. If not, we will cancel it by force,'€ Muhammad Fuad, leader of the Ka'€™abah Defender Movement, one of the elements grouped under the Islamic Society Forum (FUI), said on Wednesday.

He said he was worried that so-called academic freedom had been hijacked by some groups of people who wanted to inject society with discourses on LGBT issues. He said the LGBT orientations should be viewed like a spreading disease that could harm Islamic values and the morals of society.

Your comments:

The police are more fearful of someone from the FUI saying they are a poor Muslim then someone saying they do a lousy job. They fail to understand what being a good Muslim really is. Free this nation of these radical people and you will find a nation that lives with more harmony.

The police, no matter how busy they are, have to attend to the peoples'€™ safety. Nobody should be above the law.

It is our right to discuss any academic matters and these groups also need representation in a secular society. The police are duty bound to guarantee the safety of all Indonesians regardless of status or position in government and society.

Being in the middle of a meeting and failing to take appropriate action is not a valid reason. So please wake up.
