ommunications and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring resigned from his post as of Tuesday to fulfill his duties as a newly elected member of the House of Representatives for the 2014-2019 term.
"It's true. I've tendered my resignation as minister," said Tifatul, who will be representing the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) at the House.
"I've prepared a biography in which I will outline several things needed to enhance our communications and information sector," said Tifatul as quoted by Antara news agency.
According to him, there are three big issues to which his successor needs to pay attention, namely the development of digital TV, the application of LTE 4G technology in Indonesia and state-owned television TVRI's expansion into rural areas.
Tifatul also highlighted the need for the government to reduce the negative effects of the Internet, especially copyright infringement and pornography.
"It is also necessary to connect people in rural areas to the Internet," said Tifatul. (hhr)
