God loves Indonesia: Ahok

J

akarta Deputy Governor Basuki '€œAhok'€ Tjahaja Purnama led the provincial commemoration of Kesaktian Pancasila (Sacred Pancasila Day) on Wednesday, emphasizing the importance of upholding the nation'€™s five-principle ideology.

Talking to reporters after the commemoration, Ahok said Indonesia was the world'€™s model of diversity.

'€œThe Indonesian people should know that God loves Indonesia. Amid political turmoil or whatever events, we should believe that God takes control and He really blesses this country. Worry not because anyone who wants to launch a coup will fail because it'€™s God they are facing,'€ he said at the IRTI field, the National Monument (Monas) compound, Central Jakarta.

Ahok pointed out the well-preserved harmony among the diverse society as evidence that Indonesia was a blessed nation.

'€œGod created this world with various nations, ethnicities and beliefs and Indonesia is the miniature of the world, in a way. I think all religions are the same in terms of promoting certain values. Yet, here we are: a diverse nation where people of different backgrounds can live in harmony. In that sense, God has chosen Indonesia to become a model wherein He can show values He wants people to learn,'€ he said, adding that, '€œIndonesia has practiced those values through Pancasila.'€

Pancasila, initiated by one of the nation'€™s founding fathers Sukarno, comprises: Belief in almighty God, according to one'€™s own religion and faith; a just and civilized humanity; the unity of Indonesia; democracy guided by the inner wisdom of deliberations among representatives; and social justice for all the people of Indonesia.
