he Sea World theme park at the Taman Impian Jaya Ancol amusement park complex in North Jakarta has halted its commercial operations because of a dispute between the park's management and the management of the Ancol complex, PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol.
Pembangunan Jaya Ancol lawyer Iim Zovito Simanungkalit said there was a contractual dispute between Pembangunan Jaya and Sea World's management, PT Sea World Indonesia, over management rights.
Iim claimed that based on the contract signed in 1992, PT Sea World's management period effectively expired in June 2014 after more than 20 years.
However, the company refused to both halt commercial operations and to inform the public of its closure.
He added that Sea World claimed it would continue operations as it assumed the contract would be automatically extended until 2034.
This claim has disturbed Ancol since Sea World is operating on the complex's land.
'There should be a new agreement on this matter and there should be a formal extension of their contract,' Iim said on Wednesday, as quoted by kompas.com.
Ancol effectively sealed Sea World off from public access on Saturday.
Currently, only the directors and animal caretakers are allowed to enter the park. (dyl/nfo)(++++)
