tate-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina has named its upstream director Muhammad Husen as the company's acting CEO replacing Karen Agustiawan who resigned from the position in August.
According to Pertamina corporate communications vice president Ali Mundakir, the company has already notified their decision to State-Owned Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan, adding that Pertamina's executive committee has yet to determine a definitive CEO.
'Muhammad Husen will serve as acting Pertamina CEO until a proper successor is chosen at the company's next shareholders meeting,' Ali said on Wednesday as quoted by Antara news agency.
Ali explained that Husen would continue his duties as the company's upstream director despite his new position.
He did not elaborate on why the company had chosen Husen, but said that more than 60 percent of the firm's earnings came from its upstream sector.
Meanwhile, Pertamina commissioner Bambang P.S Brodjonegoro stated that Husen was chosen due to his senior position in the company and the fact that he handled the most profitable sector.
Former CEO Karen Agustiawan resigned from her position in August in order to pursue an academic career teaching at Harvard University in the US. As of her retirement on Oct. 1, she was the company's longest-running director, having occupied the position since 2009. (dyl/nfo)(++++)
