entral Statistics Agency (BPS) data revealed on Wednesday that Indonesia's trade balance suffered a US$ 318.1 million deficit throughout August 2014.
BPS head Suryamin said that exports in August amounted to $14.48 billion while imports stood at $14.79 billion.
"Throughout 2014, this is the fourth time we've recorded a deficit in our trade balance. In January we suffered a $0.45 billion deficit, in April the figure rose to $1.97 billion, and in June we recorded a $ 0.29 billion deficit," Suryamin told reporters in Jakarta as quoted by Antara news agency.
According to the BPS data, Indonesia's oil and gas trade balance recorded a $801.1 million deficit in August 2014.
Cumulatively, the country's trade balance during January-August 2014 period suffered a deficit of $1.404 billion.
"The non oil and gas sector trade balance which records a surplus of $7.184 billion is not enough to compensate for the deficit of the oil and gas sector," he said. (nfo)(++++)
