An Nadzir to celebrate Idul Adha on Saturday

A

n Nadzir followers in South Sulawesi have revealed they will celebrate Idul Adha on Saturday, one day earlier than the date set by the national government.

An Nadzir leader Ustadz Lukman A.Bakti said that based on rukyah (field observation on the appearance of a new moon) and hisab (astronomical calculations), it had been decided that the An Nadzir congregation would perform Idul Adha prayers on Saturday.

Lukman said 10 Dzulhijjah fell on Friday. However, the change of date occurred at around 1 p.m. local time, and since Idul Adha prayers must be conducted in the morning, his group planned to celebrate the Day of Sacrifice on Saturday.

'€œWe will perform Idul Adha prayers on Saturday morning. We have calculated the coming of Idul Adha by conducting rukyah and hisab and referring to natural indicators, and everything shows that 10 Dzulhijjah starts on Friday afternoon,'€ said Lukman.

An Nadzir followers in Gowa regency, South Sulawesi, have always scheduled Islamic celebrations, including Idul Fitri and Idul Adha, at different times to the national government.

Earlier, the Islamic group Muhammadiyah and the Maros administration announced that they will also perform Idul Adha prayers on Saturday.

Maros regent Hatta Rahman said the administration made the decision after holding a coordination meeting attended by relevant parties, including the Maros religious affairs agency head, religious leaders and local community leaders.

During the meeting, they decided that Idul Adha would fall on Saturday, referring to the fact that haj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia would perform wukuf (a special haj prayer) on the field of Arafah on 9 Dzulhijjah, which fell on Friday.

'€œWukuf is held a day before Idul Adha. As this year'€™s wukuf will be conducted on Friday, we have decided that Idul Adha will fall on Saturday. We follow the decision of the Saudi government,'€ said the Maros regent. (ebf)
