he Jakarta administration secretary, Saefullah, says his administration will prepare a livestock center for all sacrificial livestock merchants across the capital city next year in a bid to stop them from selling livestock in public spaces, such as sidewalks and parks.
He said people who wanted to buy livestock in Jakarta could go to the center, which would be located in Cakung, East Jakarta. He added that the administration had been inspired by Doni, a livestock merchant in Depok, West Java.
On Jl. Akses UI near the University of Indonesia (UI) campus, Doni sells sacrificial livestock at Mal Sapi Qurban, a livestock sales center designed like a car showroom. He uses sales girls dressed like cowgirls who carry iPads when they serve buyers. The girls wear cowboy hats, shirts, tight jeans and leather boots to attract potential buyers.
'We will follow the marketing strategy [used by Doni],' Saefullah said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
He said that once the center had been established he would hire sales girls to serve buyers.
According to Gubernatorial Decree No. 67/2014, livestock merchants are prohibited from trading on the capital's sidewalks or in green spaces or parks. However, the regulation was been widely ignored.
On Tuesday, at least 50 unarmed officers from the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) evicted dozens of merchants from the sidewalk of Jl. KH Mas Mansyur in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. The merchants strongly resisted the move and had to be evicted by force. (alz)
