The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) opened on a negative note in Thursday's first trading session, dropping by 1.14 percent to 5,083.04.
The rupiah also weakened in the opening session as it depreciated by 0.18 percent to Rp 12,157 per US dollar.
Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) data showed that 162 stocks weakened in the morning trade, beating 38 stocks that strengthened and another 38 stocks that remained stable, kontan.co.id reported.
The volume of trade involved 507.54 million shares worth Rp 729.18 billion (US$60.07 million).
Shares in all 10 sectors traded on the IDX failed to make improvements with miscellaneous industry recording the biggest fall as it dropped by 1.91 percent.
Construction and finance followed in the second and third place as they fell by 1.62 percent and 1.41 percent respectively.
Shares that saw the biggest fall in the first trading session were PT Summarecon Agung (SMRA), PT Express Transindo (TAXI) and PT Ciputra Development (CTRA). (nfo)(++++)
