Russian tourist Aleksei Vasechko, 28, was reported missing on Wednesday during a trek on Mount Sibayak, Karo regency, North Sumatra.
'As of Wednesday afternoon, we have yet to receive reports from the team. The search is ongoing,' Karo Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Albert Sianipar told The Jakarta Post by phone on Wednesday.
Sianipar said police obtained information on the missing Russian tourist from the keeper of the Sibayak Lodge, where Aleksei stayed.
He added the tourist had been staying at the Sibayak Lodge since Sept. 27 and on Monday at 7 a.m. local time he left to hike Mt. Sibayak.
However, Sianipar said Aleksei did not return to the inn by his check-out time, so he was feared missing.
