rosecutors have sought a three-year sentence and a fine of Rp 60 million (about US$5,200) against housewife Desi Ariani, 33, accused of abducting a baby from the Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung at the end of March this year.
'She is guilty of violating Law No. 22/2003 on child protection,' said prosecutor Mumuh Ardiansyah at the Bandung District Court on Wednesday.
Mumuh added the indictment proved that Desi had traded, sold or abducted the baby for her own sake and for sale. She could face up to 15 years in prison and fined up to Rp 300 million.
Prosecutors described Desi taking a baby named Valensia from her parents Lasmaria Boru Manulang, 25, and Oni Manurung, 26, from the Alamanda ward at the Hasan Sadikin Hospital on March 25, this year. Lasmaria had delivered the baby just a few hours before the incident.
