ndonesia's consumer confidence improved in September, Danareksa Research Institute survey showed. The research house's consumer confidence index rose 2.4 percent from the previous month and surpassed the 100 level for the first time since March 2005.
Danareksa Research Institute's Consumer Confidence Index reached the 102.2 level in September as people's fears over the rarity of employment availability have subsided. Consumers' worries over high prices and scarcity of fertilizer have also been alleviated.
'Consumers are judging the current economic and employment situations better,' Danareksa Research Institute wrote in its press release on Monday, as quoted by Kontan.co.id. The current situation index rose 2.5 percent to 85.1.
The expectation Index rose 2.3 percent to 115.1, showing that people are becoming more optimistic about economic prospects in the next six months.
But the optimism is apparently being shadowed by doubts, as reflected by a decline in consumers' plans to buy durable goods, according to the survey. Consumers also believe that inflationary pressures will increase in the next six months, although they have priced in that factor because prices normally increase ahead of the year-end due to festivities and the harvest season.
Consumers' confidence in the government also dropped by 0.4 percent to 93.7. But one of the components, the government's capability to enforce law, increased 3 percent, the biggest increase since September 2011.
Danareksa Research Institute's Consumer Confidence Index uses at least 1,700 Indonesian households as its sample, which comes from six areas of survey. This differs from Bank Indonesia's consumer confidence index.
