S-based social media giant Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has applauded the blusukans (impromptu visit) often conducted by outgoing Jakarta Governor and president-elect Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo.
Through his official Facebook account, Mark said that impromptu visits were an effective way to bridge communications and build closer ties between the government and its people.
During his visit to Indonesia, he offered Jokowi a program called electronic blusukan (e-blusukan).
'Through e-blusukan, he [Jokowi] can communicate with Indonesians across the archipelago,' he said as quoted by kompas.com.
Mark made the statement after accompanying Jokowi on a blusukan to the Blok A market in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta on Monday morning.
Before going to the market, Mark met with the former Surakarta mayor at City Hall.
During the meeting, Mark thanked Jokowi for having used Facebook to lure youth during his presidential election campaign.
He said that he would fully support Jokowi's incoming administration's plan to make Internet more affordable so that his administration could absorb more people's aspirations. Indonesia has the fourth-largest number of Facebook users in the world, with around 65 million users.
In March, Facebook opened a branch office in Jakarta with the expectation of working more closely with the country's businesses.
Facebook's Jakarta office is located in the Pacific Place building in the Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD), South Jakarta. (alz/nfo)(++++)
