The parents of pupils at Junjung Biru kindergarten in Tuan Kentang subdistrict, Sebrang Ulu I district, Palembang, South Sumatra, can keep their money in their pockets as they can pay their children's school fees using recyclable garbage. The kindergarten, which belongs to Syalfitri, a resident concerned about waste management, has been operating for five years.

What a simple and yet outstanding idea! Free school and a clean neighborhood, and, the biggest bonus of all, children growing up knowing not to throw rubbish everywhere!

In what seems to be a continuing cycle of bad news, I was so excited to read a story that was good news on a number of levels.
Firstly, it was about providing early childhood education to young children who may not have otherwise been able to access it and secondly it was about how one person, and her supporters, has a vision to improve the cleanliness of this city through a message of recycling.
I was also happy to hear that companies in Jakarta are supporting such a cause. Well done Syalfitri ' you are an inspiration to us all!
