KAI tears down buildings for green space

S

tate-owned train operator PT KAI demolished on Sunday 101 illegal buildings under the railroad overpass between Gondangdia and Gambir stations in Central Jakarta.

KAI Operation Region (Daop) I Greater Jakarta spokesman Agus Komarudin said 200 personnel from a number of institutions '€” KAI, the Transportation Ministry'€™s railway directorate-general and the city administration '€” had demolished the buildings, which were used for parking and as food stalls and junk warehouses by garbage collectors.

'€œWe will try to clear the area within two days,'€ he said as quoted by kompas.com. '€œAfter the area'€™s been cleaned up, the railway directorate-general will enclose it and change it into an open green space,'€ Agus said.
