ood vendors providing free food at the parade held to celebrate the inauguration of President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle area in Central Jakarta ran out of free meals by 2 p.m.

The vendors, who mostly offered mie bakso (meatball soup), were greeted with enthusiasm by the crowd, which since 8 a.m. had been growing in size in anticipation of Jokowi's arrival.

'€œWe'€™re sold out!'€ one vendor told parade attendees before closing his cart.

The throngs of parade-goers filled the streets between the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle and the National Monument (Monas), where Jokowi is expected to arrive later in the afternoon.

The road from between the Tosari bridge and Monas has been shut down by police. Only Transjakarta buses and related feeder-bus services are still operating amid the sea of people.

After the parade, Jokowi is scheduled to visit the Presidential Palace where a military reception will take place. Sometime in the evening, he is expected to visit the Monas complex for a celebratory concert. (dyl/nfo)(++++)
