osing presidential candidate and Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto is in attendance for the presidential inauguration of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and president-elect Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on Monday.
Prabowo, who was accompanied by, among others, National Mandate Party (PAN) chairman and former running mate Hatta Rajasa and Golkar Party chairman Aburizal Bakrie, arrived at the lobby of the Senayan legislative complex's plenary hall, at 9:23 a.m. He briefly spoke with journalists before before entering the hall, where the ceremony was scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) speaker Zulkifli Hasan said on Saturday that all political party leaders, including Prabowo, had confirmed they would attend the inauguration on Monday at the MPR complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta.
In a brief meeting with Jokowi on Friday, Prabowo promised he would attend Monday's ceremony if he could return to Indonesia from overseas by Sunday night. Prabowo, however, refused to disclose the purpose of his trip.
The former mayor of Surakarta, Central Java, and the former governor of Jakarta, Jokowi, along with running mate and vice-president elect Jusuf Kalla, secured 53.2 percent of votes in the July 9 presidential election.(alz/dyl)
