ice president-elect Jusuf Kalla said that along with president-elect Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, he considered fixing the 2015 state budget the top economic priority after the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) inaugurates them on Monday.
'In our first 100 days, we will fix the state budget,' he said as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that he would reduce the fuel subsidy as soon as possible, but added that such a policy would increase the price of various commodities across the archipelago. He said these higher prices could not be avoided, but that reducing the fuel subsidy would have positive impacts in the form of increased economic growth.
'Next year, I believe that our economic growth can reach 6 percent,' he said.
When addressing members of House of Representatives on Aug. 15, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said that the country's economy had developed well, with an average growth rate of 5.9 percent per year from 2009 to 2013.
In his last address, Yudhoyono said that the economic growth rate of 5.9 percent over the same period surpassed the rate in developed countries like the United States, several European countries and Japan. (alz/nvn)
