Wall collapses, kills two in Labuhanbatu

A

woman and her child died when a 3-meter wall collapsed Saturday night on Jl. Ahmad Yani, Kartini subdistrict, Rantau Utara district, Labuhanbatu regency, North Sumatra.

'€œThe incident occurred at about 8 p.m. The wall collapsed and hit several houses,'€ Kartini subdistrict head Irfan said on Sunday.

Irfan said the victims, Novi Andriani and her 2-year-old son Raka Meka Abron, died at the scene while her husband, Abdul Haris, and other son, 3-year-old Rafa, sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital.

The wall had separated a plot of land belonging to a resident, Samiun, from the other houses. The collapse is believed to have been caused by heavy rain on Saturday.

Besides damaging Abdul Haris'€™ house, the collapsing wall also destroyed three other houses and injured the owners.
