he National Narcotics Agency (BNN) head Anang Iskandar met with representatives of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to discuss cooperation between the two law enforcement agencies in handling drug cases.
'The initial meeting was to discuss possible memorandums of understanding between the BNN and the KPK,' KPK spokesman Johan Budi said on Tuesday as quoted by tribunnews.com, adding that Anang had met and discussed with KPK deputy chairman Zulkarnain.
Johan said that the form of cooperation between the two agencies would be worked out by their respective technical teams, and that the cooperation would help rid Indonesia of any more drug related crimes on every level.
Recently, the BNN admitted that its current approach to handle drug users through rehabilitation and not through imprisonment was not working out as well as they hoped, since many drug users were still being imprisoned.
In terms of law enforcement, Anang had previously said that with proper assessment procedures in cooperation with other institutions such as the Supreme Court, Health Ministry and the National Police, a more effective enforcement method could be formulated so that drug users would be rehabilitated instead of directly imprisoned.
