he Banyumas regency administration has dismissed Banyumas Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) head Rusmiyati for allegedly accepting bribes from the management of Indomaret convenience stores.
'Rusmiyati has admitted she accepted gratuities from Indomaret. We cannot tolerate this,' Regent Achmad Husein said on Tuesday.
Husein said Rusmiyati had been removed from her current position and transferred to a staff job at the Regional Employment Agency (BKD).
According to Husein, Rusmiyati had impeded the regency's efforts to crack down on Indomaret stores that had opened without permits in the region.
As many as 19 Indomaret convenience stores have been reprimanded for violating their permits.
The local administration has demolished three of the stores, while the rest have opted to close their stores permanently.
Husen also encouraged the Banyumas Prosecutor's Office to follow up the bribery allegations and promised full cooperation with prosecutors once the investigation commenced.
Commenting on the case, Indomaret's lawyer, Joko Susanto, confirmed that the Indomaret management had wired Rp 100 million (US$ 8,326) to Rusmiyati.
'The money was meant to smooth the procedure for acquiring the necessary store permits,' Joko said.
He added there was a reasonable possibility that Rusmiyati may have received larger sums in addition to the transferred amount.
