anyumas Regent Achmad Husen said more than 40,000 children in the regency, from elementary to senior high school level, had dropped out of school due to poverty or financial constraints.
He expressed concern that the number of school dropouts tended to rise each year. Husen said the number of dropouts was more than 40,000 children in 2014, who came from 331 villages in 27 districts across the regency.
'As many as 1,685 children in Tambak district have not continued their studies. We believe the number would not be much different in other districts. If an average of 1,500 children in each district has dropped out of school, then more then 40,000 children in Banyumas have dropped out of school. This is cause for concern,' Husen told the media on Thursday.
He said the high rate of school dropouts was due to economic problems, as parents could not afford to keep their children in school.
