Coffee festival targets US$4m in transactions

C

offee exports from Bandung regency in West Java are on the rise every year, but the biggest profits from the exports are only felt at the traders'€™ level as buyers buy coffee in bulk, which tends to depress the price at the farmers'€™ level.

To overcome the gap, the Bandung Regency Agriculture and Plantation Office will hold the first Bandung Coffee Festival on Nov. 5 and 6 this year at Moh. Toha Hall in the Bandung regency administrative office complex.

The event, jointly organized by the Morning Glory Coffee Academy, is expected to serve as a bridge between farmers and buyers from around the globe.

'€œWe expect transactions could reach US$4 million,'€ said office head H.A. Tisna Umaran in Bandung on Thursday.

Tisna expressed optimism that the target could be reached as at least 15 buyers from various countries had expressed their willingness to attend the event.
