The oldest state-owned bank meets the oldest golf tournament at the 2014 Indonesia Open.
The 109-year-old Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) has become the title sponsor of the 37-year-old Indonesia Open golf tournament to be held on Dec. 4-7 at Pantai Indah Golf, PIK Course, North Jakarta.
'We are delighted to be the title sponsor of the tournament. Both the bank and the tournament share a rich history, making us natural partners,' BRI executive vice president Firman Taufick said on Thursday.
'This year will be the 37th Indonesia Open and we are delighted that BRI has committed to a partnership with the tournament. With its support, the 2014 BANK BRI Indonesia Open will continue to grow and develop, and we look forward to a bright future for the tournament,' said chairman of the Indonesian Golf Association (PGI), Murdaya Widyawimarta.
He hoped that the event would support the growth of the national golf scene.
Defending champion Gaganjeet Bhullar of India, a five-time Asian Tour winner shot a 16-under-par total to win the tournament last year, has confirmed his participation at the US$500,000 tournament.
