Indonesia Open seals new title sponsor

The oldest state-owned bank meets the oldest golf tournament at the 2014 Indonesia Open.

The 109-year-old Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) has become the title sponsor of the 37-year-old Indonesia Open golf tournament to be held on Dec. 4-7 at Pantai Indah Golf, PIK Course, North Jakarta.

'€œWe are delighted to be the title sponsor of the tournament. Both the bank and the tournament share a rich history, making us natural partners,'€ BRI executive vice president Firman Taufick said on Thursday.

'€œThis year will be the 37th Indonesia Open and we are delighted that BRI has committed to a partnership with the tournament. With its support, the 2014 BANK BRI Indonesia Open will continue to grow and develop, and we look forward to a bright future for the tournament,'€ said chairman of the Indonesian Golf Association (PGI), Murdaya Widyawimarta.

He hoped that the event would support the growth of the national golf scene.

Defending champion Gaganjeet Bhullar of India, a five-time Asian Tour winner shot a 16-under-par total to win the tournament last year, has confirmed his participation at the US$500,000 tournament.
