strong>Your comments on the hundreds of thousands of people who took part in an unprecedented street celebration on Monday to welcome President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla into office, signaling their high hopes for the new leaders:

It was a great day for the republic. Go Pak Joko! We know it won'€™t be easy, but you are not alone.

I absolutely agree with Mr. President that unity is indispensable to the improvement of the nation'€™s fate. I also understand that unity is not the same as uniformity, meaning that if some people have different opinions, views, ideas or beliefs on a number of issues, it doesn'€™t mean that the group must be considered an enemy.

As long as they still uphold '€œunity'€, we should always give them enough space. Remember the nation'€™s motto: '€œUnity in diversity'€. Discussion and respect based on the constitution should come first. No more killing of Ahmadiyah followers, no more attacks on Shiite followers, no more killing of Catholic or Christian people, no more support for terrorism, no stupid fanaticism, no more stupid acts. Let'€™s use our wisdom.

If there is a negative issue circulating in our society, don'€™t believe it right away.

Please check the truth from different sources. Don'€™t only find the information from the people you '€œlike'€. We should also try to check with the people you don'€™t '€œlike'€. That'€™s what we call fair. Good luck, Mr. Jokowi.

It was an excellent speech from President Jokowi.

How wonderful and refreshing to hear him use the Hindu and Buddhist salutations and valedictions and not merely the Arabic ones!

Work, work and work! Not just that but '€œDon'€™t ask what the country can do for you but ask what you can do for your country!'€ Stop demonstrations! Punish corruptors severely!

For security reasons, placing a president and vice president in public at the same time in one car, one horse-drawn cart, one plane, in one whatever is a very bad idea. One of the reasons that you have a vice president is so that if the president is for some reason incapacitated, the vice president can take over the job of running the country.

This past mistake at the inauguration should not be repeated. There are many good people, but to harm the president all you need is one crazy one who has an opportunity. In America such unfortunate events happened to former presidents Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and Ronald Reagan.

The spontaneous outflow of people accompanying the new leaders '€” President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo and Jusuf Kalla '€” is an expression of hope and support.

Throw a joyous street party '€” why not?

It'€™s a sigh of relief after months of grueling strain in the run-up to the presidential election. We deserve such a kind of hilarious celebration '€” perhaps victorious is a more precise word.

It winds up the contest of two of the best fellow-citizens for the presidency peacefully, so the world might praise our nascent democracy.

Moreover, it marks a new dawn of Indonesia'€™s leadership history. Jokowi, just a common person like us, was chosen outside of military or political-elite establishments to run the country '€” something not seen in seven decades of liberty.

He is one of us (longing for a better Indonesia).

High hopes are good, however, too much hope will burden Jokowi'€™s working Cabinet in the five-year term of office.

As he stated in the media, people should have average expectations for him. Anything that is too much is not good.

For what he must do now is start to work hard and form the goals of what the people have hoped for. As well as for the people of Indonesia, he begged them to support him by working hard through their respective professions.

The party is over for him and us. Starting from now, we are waiting for the hopes and dreams that we have asked for since Jokowi'€™s campaign in election time. Work, work and work!

Eight delisted from ministerial posts

President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo said he has had to delist eight of his ministerial candidates because they were marked by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for being inflicted in corruption cases. What do you think?
