Pratikno officially resigns from UGM rector post

N

ewly appointed state secretary, Pratikno, had officially submitted his resignation as rector of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) via a letter dated Oct. 18, a university official said.

'€œPak Pratikno'€™s resignation letter as UGM rector has been officially accepted by the university,'€ UGM spokesperson Wiwit Wijayanti said in Yogyakarta on Thursday.

She said a staff member had directly conveyed Pratikno'€™s resignation letter to the university'€™s board of trustees, or Majelis Wali Amanah (MWA), shortly after receiving it.

'€œThe letter will be followed up immediately,'€ said Wiwit.

The MWA, which has 25 members, will request the senate approve the selection of a new rector. The selection will be conducted through a deliberation-by-consensus mechanism during which the MWA will appoint one of five deputy rectors to become rector.

'€œWe cannot confirm when the new rector will be elected. Based on the rules and regulations, a new rector must have been elected within no more than three months from the submission of the resignation letter,'€ said Wiwit.

MWA chairman Sofyan Efendi said the board would immediately hold a meeting to select a new rector. He refused to give details on the exact date of the meeting, however.

'€œWhat I can say is that we will immediately hold a meeting and within one month, all will have been settled and UGM will have a new rector,'€ said Sofyan. (tah/ebf)(++++)
