Pupils go hungry during World Food Day

E

lementary school pupils participating in a 34th World Food Day commemoration in Semarang, Central Java, on Wednesday were starving after waiting for Semarang Regent Mundjirin for three hours.

Kompas.com reported that scores of elementary school pupils had waited since 10 a.m. at the location on Jl. Diponegoro. They had finished the snacks that had been distributed a few hours earlier.

'€œThey got hungry as they commemorated World Food Day,'€ a teacher quipped, while watching the students jostling for traditional snacks from a bamboo tray.

According to the plan, the pupils would be asked to sing the World Food Day anthem. Mundjirin eventually arrived at the location at around 1 p.m.
