SOE minister appoints new KAI CEO

tate-Owned Enterprise (SOE) Minister Rini Soemarno has appointed Edi Sukmoro as the new CEO of state-owned train operator PT KAI, replacing Ignasius Jonan who has been installed as the new transportation minister.

Rini said Wednesday that Edi, who previously served as KAI'€™s property and asset management director, had been recommended by Jonan to be his successor. '€œPreviously, there were two potential candidates -- Edi and the KAI commissioner. However, Pak Jonan finally granted his recommendation to Edi,'€ Rini said.

Edi told reporters after his inauguration that he would continue Jonan'€™s programs to provide better services for customers and to boost the company'€™s financial performance.

KAI aimed to increase its total revenue by 10 percent to between Rp 10 trillion (US$825.3 million) and 11 trillion next year, he said.

'€œWe are also aiming to pocket more than Rp 560 billion in net profits next year,'€ Edi said.

Besides KAI, a number of state enterprises, namely PT Pertamina, PT Pindad, PT Garuda Indonesia, PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) and PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), currently have no definitive CEOs because their former CEOs resigned to take up ministerial posts or other careers.

Rini said that she would consult with the companies'€™ respective shareholders and would soon appoint new CEOs. '€œFor Pindad, we expect that we can appoint a new definitive CEO in 30 days, while [appointing new CEOs for] Pertamina and Telkom will be our next priorities,'€ she said.

Telkom announced Wednesday that it appointed Indro Utoyo, its innovation and strategic portfolio director, as acting CEO replacing Arief Yahya, who has been appointed tourism minister.
