span style="text-decoration: underline;">Your comments on the swearing in by President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo of the 34 ministers of his new Cabinet on Monday, which some observers say constituted a compromise:

Jokowi'€™s Cabinet has five years to prove itself before we can judge it.

The President has certainly compromised, even though stating in his campaign that he did not want to.

Maybe he was under tremendous pressure to do so, but this has weakened his image as a President who can make changes.

It seems to me that Jokowi lacks the willpower to resist Megawati'€™s influence. Ryamizard Ryacudu is one of Mega'€™s partisans, as are Puan Maharani and Thajo Kumolo. Dear God, cronyism dies hard in Indonesia.

I, as an Indonesian citizen, don'€™t expect too much from Jokowi'€™s Cabinet, since I don'€™t see that they have a particularly good track record. One positive point is that they haven'€™t been blacklisted by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

It'€™s easier to find a needle in a haystack than to find a person of integrity. Jokowi ended up selecting these ladies and gentlemen.

Yes, we don'€™t know them; their names have rarely been in the newspapers. Let'€™s hope they become well-known for their good actions rather than for wearing the orange uniform of the KPK.

There are 20 non-politicians in this Cabinet. That looks like he has done pretty well in getting a more technocratic lineup.

There'€™s no such thing as a free lunch in politics, my friends.

Since the early stages it was Jokowi'€™s wish to be assisted by a Cabinet consisting of pure and party professionals. This combination in itself is a compromise to please coalition partners. Professionals can solve problems as a matter of routine.

A minister, besides being a professional, should also be a competent manager. Whether the new Cabinet is able to execute Jokowi'€™s idealistic programs will be known within a hundred days. Let'€™s give them the chance to perform and wait for the results.

Topic of the day

Chaos in the House

A lawmaker from the United Development Party (PPP), which has experienced internal conflict, overturned a table during a House plenary session on Tuesday. The show of outrage was a protest against the plenary chairman'€™s decision on the lineup of the House commissions, which favored rival politicians in the PPP. What do you think?
