he Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong has confirmed that the second woman allegedly slain by a British banker in Hong Kong was also an Indonesian.
The Hong Kong police, in coordination with Indonesian officials, had finally managed to identify the second victim as a woman with the initials 'SM' who originated from Muna, Southeast Sulawesi, the consulate stated in a press release made available to The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.
Local authorities have charged 29-year-old British banker Rurik Jutting for murdering the two. He appeared at a preliminary court hearing on Monday.
Reports said that SM was Seneng Mujiasih, a.k.a. Jesse Lorena, whose identity had previously been unknown. Police officers found Seneng's body at Jutting's upscale apartment in Wan Chai, an area notoriously known for its nightlife and red-light district.
The police then found a suitcase on the balcony containing another dead woman whose identity was immediately discovered to be Sumartiningsih from Cilacap, Central Java.
'The Indonesian Foreign Ministry has contacted both of the victims' next of kin and the Consulate General is now making efforts to arrange both bodies to be sent home to Indonesia at the earliest convenience,' the release stated.
The consulate also plans to closely monitor all the legal processes regarding the brutal killings, it added. Reconstruction of the murders is scheduled to take place on Nov. 7 and the first trial hearing on Nov. 10 in Hong Kong. (nfo)(+++)
