he Jakarta administration has increased the basic cost of living (KHL) by 27 percent to Rp 2,538,174 (US$208) this year, from Rp 1,987,789 last year.
Jakarta Manpower and Transmigration Agency head Priyono said in Jakarta on Friday that the Jakarta Remuneration Board made the decision after conducting a meeting on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Jakarta Remuneration Board is an agency facilitating consultation between workers, government and businesspeople.
Priyono said, however, that the board would conduct one more meeting on Wednesday next week to discuss the 2015 provincial minimum wage (UMP).
'We will send the results of the meeting to acting Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama because he is the one who has the authority to make the final decision,' Priyono said as quoted by Antara news agency.
This year, Jakarta's UMP stood at Rp 2,441,301, up by 10 percent from Rp 2,200,000 in the previous year.
'We believe that the value of the UMP next year will be higher than the KHL we have recently decided upon,' he added. (alz/nfo)(++++)
