he Central Java provincial administration and state power company PT PLN are pushing hard to implement a coal-fired steam power plant (PLTU) project in Batang regency, despite facing protests from residents whose land is affected.
A team from the Central Java provincial administration, Central Java PT PLN and National Land Agency (BPN) communicated on Wednesday with land owners and members of the community regarding land acquisition.
Central Java Secretariat Construction Agency head Peni Rahayu said during the campaign, the government would make sure that compensation for the remaining land of the PLTU would no longer be carried out by PT Bhimasena Power Indonesia, as PLTU project executor.
According to a decision by the central government, compensation for the remaining land would be carried out by PT PLN in reference to Law No. 2/2012 on land acquisition for development for public interests.
According to Peni, in line with the law, PT PLN, on behalf of the state, has the authority to force land owners to hand over their land for public interest. (***)
