imon Santoso of Indonesia crashed out in the opening round of the Hong Kong Open badminton championship after he lost to Brice Leverdez of France on Wednesday.
Simon was beaten 21-14, 19-21, 19-21.
After taking the first game, Simon had the chance to take victory, leading 19-16 in the second game. However, he could not withstand the improved offense from his opponent.
'When I was leading, I was in the mood to finish it off. I appeared too hasty in the execution,' he said in a press release from the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI).
Leverdez squared his head-to-head meeting with Simon to 1-1. Their previous meeting, in the 2011 China Open Super Series Premier, ended with a 21-16, 21-15 victory for Simon.
Other Indonesian players scheduled to play on the day were Tommy Sugiarto and Sony Dwi Kuncoro. Riky Widianto/Richi Puspita Dili (mixed doubles), Greysia Polii/Nitya Krishinda Maheswari (women's doubles) and Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan (men's doubles) all cruised through to the second round.
