Let's talk not only of the oil and gas mafia but mafia in general. The word 'mafia' itself comes from Italy; it means a freedom movement. It's positive. But at times it becomes negative.
Cabals exist everywhere, not only in oil and gas. It took a generation to overcome the mafia in the US. It was eliminated when John F. Kennedy was president.
So what can we expect from Faisal Basri leading the team?
Jokowi has to take over the industry, but does he have the guts to take on the cabal, whose influence extends right into the inner circles of government?

This is a significant attempt by President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's administration to eradicate the oil and gas cabal.
Hopefully, Mr. Faisal Basri and his team will be able fix this terrible national problem.

I agree with the establishment of the team and I believe that we have to open the possibility for more parties to be involved in oil and gas distribution.

The first time I heard of Faisal Basri was when I heard the news of his announcement as chairman of the newly established oil and gas reform team, whose members are as yet unknown.
The team has the task of realizing one of Jokowi's election promises, the eradication of the oil and gas cabal. Within six months this academic study-team will produce applicable recommendations to reform the management of the oil and gas industry, eliminating all kinds of irregularities.
But to fight the mafia is always a risky task.

Fuel-price hikes
President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo has announced an increase in the prices of subsidized fuels ' from Rp 6,500 (53 US cents) to 8,500 for premium gasoline and from Rp 5,500 to 7,500 for diesel fuel. He said his government would shift the subsidies into more productive areas. What should be the government's next step?
