Senna ready for world karting championship

I

ndonesian karting driver Senna Noor is set to fly to Valencia to take part in the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals next week.

The Kratingdaeng RISER Shadaff Motorsport team has qualified to compete against 72 drivers from around the world in the prestigious DD2 class after winning this year'€™s Asian championship '€” with Senna topping the six-series race, all of which took place in Malaysia, with 522 points.

His close rival Ricky Tanioka of Japan was a distant second with 463 points. Ricky, who also drives for Shadaff Motorsport, won the opening match before Senna took out the following four series. The Indonesian was content on finishing in second place in the last race when his position at the top was insurmountable.

The Valencia race will be Senna'€™s fifth race in the Grand Finals. His previous four finals saw him in the junior class in 2008 and 2011 and in senior class in 2012 and 2013.

Team principal Bunjamin Noor said that the team would be happy if Senna could end up in a top-10 place, but the driver set a more moderate target, saying that he would first try to reach the final race.

'€œI'€™m optimistic about the race. I'€™m confident about racing at least to the finals,'€ Senna said during a press conference on Thursday. He was accompanied by other team drivers Sergio Noor and Shaquille Rekardianto, neither of whom will compete in Valencia.

'€œAll participants are tough,'€ Senna said when asked about potential challengers.

The races will take place from Nov. 25 to 29 at Kartodromo Internacional Circuit in Valencia.

Senna said the race'€™s 72 drivers would be split into four to five groups. '€œThe best 28 drivers will advance to the finals,'€ he said.

While the race is to be held next week, the team will leave on Friday.

'€œWe are going early in order to have time for adjustment to the circuit. Senna will be racing there for the first time,'€ Bunjamin said.

'€œSenna is racing as an Asian representative. I hope Sergio and Shaquille will be able to join him in the Grand Finals next year,'€ he added.

The first edition of the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals took place in 2000 on the island of Puerto Rico. Local driver Gavin Cronje emerged as the winner from 66 drivers representing 19 countries.

In 2013, the US city of New Orleans hosted the event with Oliver Hodgson winning over 360 drivers. Senna languished in 19th position in the senior division.
