Two big exhibitions '€” the first-ever Indonesian Toy, Game and Comic Convention at JIExpo in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta and the 10th HelloFest Anima Expo in Senayan, South Jakarta '€“ offer a wide variety of pop culture products.

The shows, both opened on Saturday and running until Sunday, showcase the best of the West and East, headlined with producers of favorite toys, computer games, comics, animation films, anime and collectibles.

'€œI'€™m here to find something to add to my Marvel toy collection,'€ Deni, 19, said at the convention, referring to the action figures from the comic characters. '€œBut it seems that the products here are dominated by the Japanese anime and manga [comics].'€

There are 92 exhibitors from Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and the US that include Hot Toys, 2Spot Communications, LEGO, re:ONComics and Boomzap Entertainment.

Thai toymaker Benzilla, the creator of 3Dolls, and Marvel Comic editor CB Cebulski are also present at the event.

The Kemayoran event is a spin-off event of Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention. The Jakarta event is part of Reed POP events that included the New York Comic Convention and the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo.

In Senayan, the HelloFest is being held for fans of the local icons.

Indonesia'€™s own re:ONComics came with the full team, bringing its comic artists including Chris Lie, Is Yuniarto and Andik Prayogo. Lie was the toy designer for Transformers, GI Joe and Spiderman action figures and was involved in the illustrations for Star Wars and Lord of the Rings franchises. He was also a part of the Return to Labyrinth comic makers named New York Times Best Seller.

Yudha Negara Nyoman, the founder of PT Wahana Inspirasi Nusantara that publishes re:ONComics, said they had also brought along Annisa Nisfihani, a young comic maker from Tenggarong, East Kalimantan. '€œWe want to inspire our readers that anyone can be a good comic maker as long as they are willing to work hard and have discipline.'€
