he National Narcotics Agency (BNN) arrested on Saturday evening three Chinese nationals in the upmarket neighborhood of Pluit in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, for possessing and storing a total of 157 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.
The three men were named as 43-year-old Xiao Jin Zeng, 44-year-old Chen Wei Biao and 32-year-old Li Lin Fei.
BNN chief commissioner general Anang Iskandar said on Sunday that the agency had received a tipoff that a large quantity of drugs were being shipped from China to Indonesia via water on Nov. 23.
The agency, following up on the report, tracked the delivery of a suspicious package from the seaport, leading to the arrests.
'The drugs were sent by boat. Sea transportation is easier for smuggling drugs because security is less tight than at airports,' Anang said as quoted by tempo.co, adding that security had to be increased at seaports to prevent drug smuggling. He also revealed that the three suspects were fluent in Indonesian. (***)
